Numerous medical facilities and government agencies will join District 218 on Friday, August 13 in hosting a Back to School Health Fair at Richards High School in Oak Lawn.
The event, which will run from 2 to 6 p.m., will feature:
- – School physicals for $40 (Parents must bring their student’s medical records, any insurance cards and accompany their children in order to get physicals or immunizations)
- – Immunizations for $10
- – Comprehensive eye exams for $40
- – Free dental exams; and, many other free health screens and consultations
- – Free food, drinks, school supplies, children’s games, entertainment
Richards is located at 10601 S. Central Avenue. Admission is free to the fair, which is designed for families of elementary, middle and high school students.
Free transportation to and from the fair will also be provided, with buses leaving from the Calumet Park Village Hall, St. Donatus Church, Paul Revere Primary School, Kerr Middle School, Eisenhower H.S., and Lincoln School.
The fair also includes free food and drink and free school supplies. For young children, the fair will feature free games and Safety Town, a small scale cityscape that reminds kids how to avoid potential traffic hazards. The Cook County Sheriff will present Safety Town.
Smile, Illinois and Orland Park Dental will provide a limited number of dental exams at no cost. Mt. Greenwood Eye Center and the Eye Specialists will provide comprehensive eye exams for just $40.
District 218 staff will attend to answer questions about residency verification, late registration, course selection, activities, and athletics.
The St. Xavier University Health Center will provide school physicals for $40. Parents, who must bring their student’s medical records and any insurance cards, need to accompany their children in order to get physicals. The clinic also will offer immunizations for $10 apiece. Again, parents must bring immunization records with them in order to have their children receive immunizations.
MetroSouth Medical Center will offer free glucose, body fat and blood pressure screens. Representatives from the Breast Health Center and Stroke Clinic from Christ Advocate Medical Center will attend. Contento Foot and Ankle Center will provide free foot and ankle screens, and Chiro One Wellness Center and Essential Chiropractic will provide free back screens.
Other agencies that will participate include Capitol Nutrition; CEDA; Oak Lawn Family Services; Oak Lawn and Alsip park districts; Oak Lawn Family Services; Cancer Support Center; South Suburban PADS; Resurrection Behavioral Health; Little Company of Mary: The Heart Connection Program for Bereaved Children; Grand Prairie Services; Metropolitan Family Services; Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Illinois; and, the Oak Lawn police and fire departments.
Bus To and From Fair
We will offer free bus rides to and from the health fair. The buses will stop twice at each site: two pick up times, two drop-off times. Please wait for the buses at the front door of each site. If we’re a little late, please be patient.
