Planning and Zoning Board of Appeals (PZBA)

Mission

The City of Blue Island Planning and Zoning Board of Appeals’ mission is to preserve, promote, and enhance the “quality of life” in the city by providing a forum for public involvement in community planning and development efforts.

The Planning and Zoning Board of Appeals is a seven (7) member board. For more information on how you can get involved, click here.

PZBA Hearing Schedule for 2024

Jurisdiction

The Planning and Zoning Board of Appeals, in addition, to powers and duties set forth in Ordinance No. 1976 or any other ordinance, shall have the following additional duties under this Comprehensive Amendment.

To receive from the Zoning Administrator copies of all applications for text and map amendments, special uses, variances, zoning appeals, or such other applications (such as subdivisions or site plans) provided by ordinance or by the Statutes of the State of Illinois; to review the same and make its recommendations to the City Council.

Meetings & Rules

All meetings of the Planning and the Zoning Board of Appeals shall be held at the call of the Chairman, and at such times as the Planning and Zoning Board of Appeals may determine. All hearings conducted by said Board shall be open to the general public. Any person may appear and testify at a hearing either in person or by a duly authorized agent or attorney. The Chairman, or in his absence the Acting Chairman, may administer oaths and compel the attendance of witnesses. The Planning and Zoning Board of Appeals shall keep minutes of its proceedings and shall also keep records of its meetings and other official actions. A copy of every rule or regulation, order, requirement, decision, or determination of the Planning and Zoning Board of Appeals shall be filed in the Office of the Building Official, and shall be a public record. The Board shall adopt its own rules and procedures, not in conflict with this Ordinance or with the applicable Statutes, and select or appoint such officers as it deems necessary.
