The National Fire Prevention Association, Fire Prevention week (10/6-10/12) theme was Prevent Kitchen Fires. The Blue Island Fire Department held a poster contest with Blue Island Grade Schools and the winners were K-3rd, Miguelangel Mercado, Paul Revere school; and 4th & 5th, Genevieve Healy, Paul Revere Intermediate. Both students were awarded a certificate from Mayor Vargas, Chief Luety, Deputy Chief Klinker and Alderman Candace Carr at the November 12th City Council Meeting. As a special surprise, both students were brought to school the next day by the Fire Department and rode in a Fire Truck! Congratulations Genevieve and Migulangel!
