The City of Blue Island, in partnership with Openlands, received an Illinois Coastal Grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, to teach paddling, educate participants on Calumet waterway stewardship and to encourage paddling on the Calumet Waterways. On May 17th a workshop was held at William Powers State Park on Wolf Lake. Most of the 40 participants never Kayaked before, but are now interested in paddling and keeping the waterways clean. More workshops are schedule (some in the Little Calumet River in Blue Island). Our next event is paddling and clean-up of the Little Calumet River. Click here for more information!
