Blue Islanders were excited when Robbins native and Richards HS grad Dwyane Wade announced he’ll be playing for his hometown Chicago Bulls this season. In his statement Wade said he looks forward to “returning to my roots”
My most treasured memories were watching my dad play basketball … and developing my game at the Blue Island Recreation Center. I have never forgotten where I came from.
We believe in the power of recreation to develop character, friendships, improve health and fitness… and encourage NBA star quality self-confidence! That’s why the City of Blue Island has invested $300,000 on rehabbing the Blue Island Recreation Center with new study space, outdoor amenities such as the splash pad, a community garden and of course, a beautiful gym. We have partnered with the Blue Island Park District to offer a full calendar of activities. We welcome everyone–D. Wade included!–to join us at the John D. Rita Recreation Center. Visit the Recreation Center page and download the calendar of events now! See you this Saturday at our 3-on-3 tourney!
