New waste removal and recycling service provider

The City of Blue Island is proud to bring you a new waste removal and recycling service provider, Lakeshore Recycling Systems.

As a resident, the only changes you’ll notice next week will be:

1. The removal of your current waste and recycling bins after your normally scheduled pick up for the week beginning 6/26/17.
2. That same week, you’ll receive new 95 gallon receptacles for both waste and recycling to be used the week beginning 7/3/17.

Your service will continue as normally scheduled, without interruption. Recycling will continue to be picked up every other week, and as we approach the July 4th holiday, it’s important to keep in mind schedule fluctuations related to holiday observances will remain in effect.

As a community, we’ll realize many benefits from contracting with Lakeshore Recycling Systems. While service to Blue Island residents remains the same, our provider costs are decreasing by more than $160,000 annually. Those are real, needed dollars that are now available for other vital projects and improvements.

Additionally, every residence will now have a 95-gallon receptacle for recycling, along with detailed information on how and what to recycle. Lakeshore Recycling Systems continues to pioneer new ways to divert waste from landfills, and shares Blue Island’s commitment to environmental sustainability and stewardship.

Each receptacle contains a serial number and RIFD chip. Lakeshore’s new fleet of trucks that will be used in Blue Island contain RIFD chip readers, enabling Lakeshore to provide detailed service reports and analysis, as well as fast, accurate identification of lost or stolen bins.

If you have any questions about this message or the service provider change, please call Lakeshore Recycling Systems at 773-685-8811. You can also call Blue Island Public Works at 708-597-8604.

On behalf of Blue Island’s elected officials and staff, thank you for helping us build a better Blue Island, together!
