Blue Island Police Department Returns to Service

March 23, 2020, Blue Island, Illinois: The Blue Island Police Department has reported back to work as of 6 a.m. today, following a temporary closure of the department on March 22, 2020. The closure was in response to an employee who tested positive for COVID-19. The department has been thoroughly cleaned and personnel not in direct contact with the affected employee have returned to work.

For emergencies, residents should dial 911 as always. For non-emergencies, residents can continue utilizing the non-emergency number 708-385-1313. The lobby of the Police Department remains closed to the public at this time, and previously released temporary response procedures will remain in effect until further notice.

Additionally, in response to the evolving COVID-19 pandemic, Blue Island Aldermen Fred Bilotto, Kevin Donahue, and Jim Klinker called an emergency City Council meeting on Sunday, granting emergency response authority to Blue Island Fire Department Chief Dan Reda, who will work in conjunction with Police Chief Bernadine Rzab.

Moving forward, City leadership will be meeting daily to discuss the status of the COVID-19 response. This information will be shared on blueisland.org/coronavirus and on the City Facebook page. Residents can also sign up for email alerts by visiting blueisland.org/coronavirus.
