Creating Space for the Future – Building Demolition at 11955 Vincennes, Blue Island, IL (December 22, 2020) – The City of Blue Island, in partnership with Cook County, will be demolishing the structure 11955 Vincennes Road. The project was funded by the Cook County Community Development Block Grant and led by the City of Blue Island. The project will completely remediate and remove the structure, making way for future development and making the area more attractive for residents and investors.
Mayor Domingo Vargas says, “These improvements will serve a vital role to provide redevelopment and investment in the community which will bring new businesses, new jobs, and services. This project represents the City’s ongoing commitment to serve the residents of Blue Island better.”
The project consists of asbestos abatement and building removal at 11955 Vincennes Road, previously a large manufacturing facility in the City of Blue Island. This work includes all permit coordination, the proper disposal of demolition debris and excavated material, securing the site during demolition, abatement of asbestos, disconnection of all existing utilities, and all work necessary for the successful demolition of the structure and completion of the project.
Construction is expected to begin in January 2021 and finish in Spring 2021. The project construction cost will be approximately $ 465,000. Robinson Engineering, Ltd. assisted the City in securing $465,000 in grant funding from the Cook County Community Development Block Grant. City of Blue Island Special Projects Manager Mark Miller started the process in 2013, applying for the CBDG Demolition Grant, which also funded the remediation and demolition of 11941 Vincennes.
