After The Snow: What To Expect

On Monday into Tuesday morning this week, snow exceeding 15 inches fell across Blue Island, bringing total snow accumulations from the last few weeks to more than 25 inches. The Public Works Department is focused on clearing the arterial roads to keep them safe and passable for emergency vehicles, buses and motorists, and have begun the transition to residential side streets.

To help Public Works effectively clear the streets as quickly as possible, we ask that property owners refrain from shoveling snow into the street.

We are asking businesses to designate a few spots in their parking lots for the snow instead of pushing it back onto the street.

We are also asking residents to snow blow or shovel any snow onto the parkway.

We know there is a lot of snow out there, and we are starting to relocate it.

Once we start relocating snow, we ask that residents keep children away from the large piles of snow.

Recycling and Garbage
Residents can expect delays in recycling and garbage this week and we ask that residents remain patient. Garbage trucks will work on tracking alleys and resuming alley service.
