Calling all Blue Islanders with green thumbs! In 2021, there are several opportunities to volunteer your time and skills, or even rent a bed of your own to grow what you’d like for your family or friends.
Hope Center – 2552 135th St, Blue Island
• Developing a food forest for the community, looking to offer programming. For more information, contact Rocio at (708) 926-9722.
Ann Street Garden – corner of Ann and James Street
• A few families farming, working with children in the community.
• Farm to table. Contact Joe O’Meara at 773-203-2332 to learn more about volunteering at this garden.
Rec Center – 2805 141th Street
• 22 re-built raised beds with a few fruit trees and raspberries.
• Allotment bed and half communal. Beds are $20 for residents with payment made to the City of Blue Island. To reserve your bed and make pyament, contact Valerie Kehoe at valkehoe62@gmail.com

Memorial Park – 12804 Highland Ave.
• 30 allotment beds with approximately 3 beds designated for the food pantry and community. To reserve a bed at Memorial Park or to sign up as a volunteer, please see Karen Zielinski in the park district office or email kzielinski@blueislandparks.org.
