As a new part of our annual Black History Month Celebration, the City of Blue Island is highlighting the many African-American employees that help make our City great. Meet Undra Ware, Administrative Assistant with the Blue Island Fire Department.

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY ABOUT WORKING IN BLUE ISLAND? Serving the public and resolving inquiries; assisting the Fire Chief in operating the Fire Department, and participating in Black History Community Events.

TELL US ABOUT SOMEONE WHO INSPIRES YOU? Besides my parents and kids, Fire Chief Jim Klinker. Chief Klinker took the time to get to know me as a person and encouraged me to maintain my integrity and and appreciated my work ethic.

WHAT DOES BLACK HISTORY MONTH MEAN FOR YOU? The ability to exemplify courage and being of service when faced with challenges. Being a role model and utilizing your gifts and talents to better humanity.
