City of Blue Island Hometown Heroes Program Returns In 2024

The City of Blue Island is proud to announce the second season of our Hometown Heroes banner program, honoring current or former residents who have served or are currently serving our country’s military.

To purchase a banner, please visit the City Clerk’s office at 13051 Greenwood Avenue during normal operating hours to fill out the registration form – you can also download the form here and mail it to the Clerk’s Office: Click here to download

The cost per banner is $100 and includes production and placement for the 2024 display period. Forms, payment, and a photo of the military member must be turned in no later than April 1, 2024 to participate. Display locations are limited, and applications will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Photographs accompanying all applications should be of the military member in uniform and of a high-quality resolution. Submission of original photos is preferred to help create the highest possible quality banner. Original photos will be returned to the applicants, digital files will not be accepted.

NOTE: The City of Blue Island is not responsible for replacing or repairing banners that are stolen, damaged, or destroyed due to age, vandalism, or any acts of nature including high winds. Any loss or damage to an installed banner will be handled at the discretion of the City.

Display dates for all Hometown Hero banners will be approximately between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Banners can then be returned to the sponsor upon request at the end of the display period. If you have additional questions about the program, please call (708) 597-8603.
