Full-Time Police Desk Clerk

The City of Blue Island is seeking a Full-Time Police Desk Clerk for the City’s Police Department.

The Police Desk Clerk provides clerical support to ensure the efficient operation of the Blue Island Police Department. Police Desk Clerks perform a variety of duties that can change throughout the day. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: answering, making and directing phone calls; taking and distributing messages; organizing and scheduling appointments and/or meetings; handling inquiries and incoming work requests; reviewing files and records to answer requests for information; checking and distributing documents and correspondence; receiving, sorting and distributing incoming mail; envelope stuffing; maintaining filing systems & filing records; monitoring prisoners and searches when necessary; hearing & appeal processes of records; being knowledgeable of department policies, procedures, state and federal laws relating to their duties; and performing any other duties or responsibilities as assigned by the Chief of Police or his/her designee. The Police Department, including clerical staff, is a 24 hour-a-day operation.

The City is looking to hire a Police Desk Clerk with experience working in an office setting and providing essential emergency support. Additionally, candidates for the position must have the following qualifications:

• High school diploma or G.E.D.
• Two to five years of experience in an office setting preferred
• Ability to maintain a high level of attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to successfully pass a criminal background investigation to be granted access to law- enforcement sensitive and confidential information
• Ability to be flexible to work a variety of shifts on a variety of different days

The entry wage for a Police Desk Clerk is $18.88/hour.
