Public Works: Summer Seasonal Employment Opportunities

The City of Blue Island is seeking motivated individuals to join our Public Works Department as a Summer Seasonal Employee. The position will be from May – August with work hours of 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Work is performed in outdoor weather conditions and near vehicular traffic.

The individuals in these positions perform duties which are normally assigned to regular maintenance workers in the off-season. This includes day-to-day maintenance and upkeep of City properties, roadways, facilities, and other duties as assigned.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
• Landscape maintenance
• Utility locating
• Painting
• Debris removal
• Moving equipment and/or furniture
• Cleaning of City vehicles and equipment
• Daily equipment inspections
• Basic construction tasks

REQUIREMENTS
• Must be at least 16 years of age or older
• Mechanical aptitude and/or related training preferred
• Must be able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
• Must be able to stand, walk, kneel, sit, or lift and/or move up to 75 lbs
• Must be able to perform work in all types of weather conditions

SALARY
$13 – $15 an hour
