Temporary Changes to Police Response Amid COVID-19
(BLUE ISLAND, Ill.) –

The Blue Island Police is taking temporary measures to ensure the safety of the public and the men and women who work for the Department.

Effective immediately, officers will no longer respond in person to low-level calls for service in an effort to protect the public and officers from coronavirus.

The Blue Island Police Department is encouraging people to contact our non-emergency number at 708-385-1313 to report crimes that do not require an immediate response and if no one is in danger. Please provide the dispatcher with as much information as possible and an officer will be assigned to follow up with a phone call without risking exposure to the complainant or officer. Blue Island Police Officers will not be dispatched in person unless there is still a crime in progress or it is a serious offense requiring in-person attention.

The Police Department is asked that people refrain from coming to the police department in person to report crimes unless it is an emergency.

Also, should people need to pay a parking citation, the Police Department asks that people first visit www.violationspayment.com to pay their fine. If it is necessary to pay a fine at the station, the Police Department asks that all fines be delivered in a sealed envelope with the contact information written on the outside and that the payment be the exact amount.

Again, this is a temporary change in our policy in response to the COVID-19 virus. The Police Department will return to normal operation once the crisis subsides.
