BIPD Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program In Effect October 1 – October 16

The Blue Island Police Department is announcing the implementation of the Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP Grant). This enforcement campaign will last for two weeks and will take place October 1st through October 16th.

The purpose of the STEP Grant is to reduce the incidence of motor vehicle crashes, and the resulting injuries and fatalities, through increased highly visible enforcement of occupant restraint, impaired driving, and speeding laws.

The Blue Island Police Department will be citing motorists for speed related violations during our enforcement efforts, and wish to remind everyone to watch their speed, eliminate distractions inside the vehicle, and remain cognizant of changing traffic conditions such as construction / school zones, traffic flow pedestrian traffic. We also urge all motorists to buckle their safety belts, obey all laws and use a designated driver if consuming alcohol.

The Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) grant focuses on high visibility enforcement on specific times and dates of the year. The enforcement efforts are designed to reduce fatalities and serious injuries around some of the deadliest times of the year for vehicle travel. The funds for this program are provided by a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation.
