Celebrating Women’s History – 6th Ward Alderman Candace Carr

During the month of March, the City of Blue Island will be celebrating Women’s History Month by featuring the outstanding women who work for or have been elected to serve the City. Meet Candace Carr, 6th Ward Alderman for the City of Blue Island:

HOW LONG HAVE YOU WORKED FOR THE CITY OF BLUE ISLAND? Since April of 2013, almost 10 years.

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT WORKING AT THE CITY OF BLUE ISLAND? I truly enjoy helping people as I am able to. I particularly enjoyed working with the Police and Fire Departments during my first 6 years.

WHO IS A WOMAN YOU ADMIRED GROWING UP? WHAT DID YOU ADMIRE ABOUT HER? My mother. She was always kind and tried to view things for a philosophical viewpoint. She raised eight children, and we have all become successful, contributing members of society.

WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR YOUNG WOMEN WHO ASPIRE TO DO WHAT YOU DO? GETTING elected requires a lot of hard work over a short period of time. You must be willing to dedicate yourself almost solely to your campaign. Once you are elected, you have to listen to your constituents, and help where you can.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO SERVE AS A WOMAN IN LEADERSHIP? This has been ten of the most satisfying years of my life. It has been interesting to see the world from both sides: everyday life and government. I hope to be an inspiration to young women in Blue Island.
